Daemon<\/strong> ist das lateinische Wort f\u00fcr altgriechisch daimon (\u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd: „Gott“, „G\u00f6ttlichkeit“, „Macht“, „Schicksal“). Das urspr\u00fcngliche altgriechische Wort \u03b4\u03b1\u03af\u03bc\u03c9\u03bd daim\u014dn ist nicht negativ konnotiert, sondern bezeichnet einen g\u00f6ttlichen Geist oder eine g\u00f6ttliche Kraft, wie das lateinische genius oder numen. Die griechische Vorstellung von daim\u014dn taucht vor allem in den Werken Platons auf, wo er die g\u00f6ttliche Inspiration des Sokrates beschreibt. Die griechischen Begriffe haben keine Konnotation mit dem B\u00f6sen oder der Bosheit. Vielmehr bedeutet \u03b5\u1f50\u03b4\u03b1\u03b9\u03bc\u03bf\u03bd\u03af\u03b1 eudaimonia, (w\u00f6rtlich: gute Laune) Gl\u00fcck.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Die Programmierer von CTSS pr\u00e4gten 1961 den Begriff Daemon in Analogie zu Maxwells Teufel, und alle von ihm abstammenden Systeme, einschlie\u00dflich Unix, haben die Terminologie \u00fcbernommen.<\/p>\n

D\u00e4monen sind Figuren aus der griechischen Mythologie, von denen einige Aufgaben erf\u00fcllten, mit denen die G\u00f6tter nicht fertig wurden, so wie D\u00e4monen im Hintergrund Aufgaben erf\u00fcllen, mit denen der Benutzer nicht fertig werden will oder kann.<\/p>\n
